Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by the voice actor), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the group access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in search of Casimir.
